About me

I've been into gaming ever since I got my hands on an Atari 2600 and Centipede as a kid back in the 80s. Even though the graphics and gameplay were primitive by today's standards I was never happier than when I was sat in front of the telly with a controller in my hands.

As I grew so too did my fascination and passion for video games. I've owned most of the popular consoles over the years and I daresay a few of the more obscure ones as well!

It was exciting growing up in the 80s and 90s as a gamer. The technology was evolving at such a pace back then that seemingly every couple of months it felt like there was a new console being announced that improved over its predecessors. Graphics and sound got better, controllers got more buttons and games got bigger and more in-depth thanks to the arrival of CD's and DVD's.

At it's core though gaming still offers the exact same thing for me that it did when I first picked up an Atari joystick. Escapism.

As someone who has struggled with mental health issues for most of my life I find that a few hours spent playing a game offers a form of therapy that nothing else can quite match. The ability to escape to another world and focus solely on the tasks that need to be achieved there is a great way to relax and calm an overactive mind.

The idea of this blog is to encourage me to clear through my frankly ridiculous backlog of games. Over the past year or so it's been getting out of control and I need to do something about it! I'll be sharing my thoughts on each title as I play them which i'm hoping some of you will find interesting.

Comments and feedback are always welcome of course so do feel free to reach out either here or on Twitter.

Thanks for visiting! 😊

  1. Sup Hackstar! Loving the gaming blog, kudos! I would like to ask on behalf of the gaming world (if it hasn't been asked before) what your top 5 games (on any console) and why.
